Contact lens exams and fittings in Oxnard, CA

A contact lens prescription is not the same thing as a glasses prescription. Lenses sit directly on the eye, so the fit, curvature, diameter, material, and how the lens moves with each blink, matters as much as the power.

  • Daily disposables & monthlies
  • Astigmatism (toric) lenses
  • Multifocal & monovision
  • Colored contact lenses

Why a fitting is its own appointment

Two people with identical prescriptions can need completely different lenses. One has a steeper cornea, one produces a thinner tear film, one sleeps six hours and stares at spreadsheets all day. A fitting measures the shape of your cornea, evaluates your tear film, and then checks how a trial lens actually behaves on your eye, whether it centers properly, whether it moves the right amount with a blink, whether the surface stays wet through the afternoon.

That's why a contact lens evaluation is billed separately from a glasses exam. It's additional measurement, additional lens time, and follow-up to confirm the lens is still performing after you've worn it in real life for a week or two.

Lens options we fit

We fit for comfort first, then convenience, then cost. If a lens isn't comfortable at hour ten, it doesn't matter how good the optics are, you'll stop wearing it.

  • Daily disposables, the healthiest and lowest-maintenance option for most people
  • Two-week and monthly replacement soft lenses
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism, which need rotational stability to stay clear
  • Multifocal lenses for patients over 40 who want both distance and near
  • Monovision, when multifocals aren't the right fit
  • Colored contact lenses, fit and prescribed properly rather than bought over the counter

New to contacts?

First-time wearers get hands-on training in the office: how to insert and remove a lens, how long to wear it the first week, how to clean and store it, and what warning signs mean you should take the lens out and call us. Nobody leaves until they can do it themselves comfortably. We've seen the worst so you don't have to. Come see us for a CL fit. One time training fees apply but include a starter kit with free solution and trial lenses.

If you've tried contacts before and gave up because they felt dry or scratchy, it's worth trying again. Materials have changed dramatically, and a dry-feeling lens is often a solvable fit or tear-film problem rather than proof that your eyes 'just can't wear contacts.'

Keeping your eyes healthy in lenses

Contact lenses are medical devices, and wearing them well is what keeps the front of your eye healthy for decades. Sleeping in lenses that aren't approved for it, topping off old solution, rinsing with tap water, and stretching a monthly lens to three months are the four habits behind most of the infections and corneal ulcers we treat. We'd much rather show you how to avoid them than treat one.

Annual contact lens evaluations let us confirm the cornea is still clear and well-oxygenated, update your power if it's shifted, and move you to a newer material if something better has come out. If you notice redness, pain, light sensitivity, or blurred vision in a lens, take it out and call us, that combination is always worth an urgent visit.
