Good candidates generally have a stable prescription for at least a year, healthy corneas of adequate thickness and regular shape, a well-controlled tear film, no significant retinal or optic nerve disease, and realistic expectations about what the surgery does and doesn't fix.

The conversation people actually need

Two things surprise patients most. The first is dry eye: LASIK temporarily reduces corneal nerve sensation and almost everyone is drier for a period afterward. If your tear film is already struggling, we treat that first, going into surgery with untreated dry eye is the most common reason for a miserable recovery.

The second is reading vision. Laser correction fixes distance vision; it does not stop the age-related loss of near focus that begins in the forties. A 28-year-old who has LASIK will still need reading correction in their mid-forties, and a 48-year-old considering it needs a frank discussion about monovision and what the trade-offs feel like day to day. Co-management and recovery

If you're a candidate and want to proceed, we refer you to a surgeon we trust, send along all measurements, and coordinate scheduling. After surgery, the bulk of your follow-up visits happen here, typically the day after, then at one week, one month, and three months, with more if your healing needs it.

At those visits we check vision and refraction, examine the flap or the healing surface, monitor eye pressure, manage post-operative drops, and treat dry eye aggressively while corneal nerves recover.
